The above is correct, and coming to hike it depends on the company criteria, every time the company sets the new criteria and the manager decides to whom to fit in that criteria.

You become eligible for promotion in your second appraisal period. But being eligible doesn't guarantee promotion, it will need your manager to nominate you for promotion, further it goes to multiple level of approvals by business head, further based on bell curve, eligibility is measured and then finally promotion is done.
