Trending @Wipro; I use fake compliments to motivate freshers to do my work. Is that a bad thing?

I've been reading through this group, and it got me thinking about a situation at work that I’m starting to question. Let me explain.

There's one guy on my team who is pretty lazy, almost to the point of being unmotivated. But I figured out that if I compliment him on his work (his work is meh), he becomes attentive and starts really working hard. Same with others: I complimented this fresher for their coding, and suddenly they’re working hard up without me asking.

This actually works and I am able to get more work done.

It’s not manipulative right?

Last week, a couple of freshers overheard me talking to another colleague about how I use compliments to get results. Now they’re acting cold towards me, and I'm getting the sense they feel manipulated.

What should I do?

That's not manipulation it's positive feedback being appreciated feels good but it's a foreign concept in most of corporate in india.

Maybe they(fresher) may think that u were manipulating them but ask them and yourself would you rather do this or shout and threaten them to work.

Ask them did they see themselves get better in their work with your motivation if yes then u are doing 200% correct.

Ps - I am just an unemployed fresher who might be joining Wipro, would like to connect with you if possible to talk.

Be honest as you are not making people believe you are fake but you are cheating yourself. That makes you split personality and sooner it will be your personal reality stop here itself. It may be hard to be truthful but it is never so easy to be fake as you are doing injustice more to yourself than anyone else. It may sound philosophical now but later you will realise when u sir alone and do self analysis.

The fact that the employee was lazy and started working on the external push you have provided actually clarifies that the person had qualities in him which was not explored. Sometimes the reason why you complimented was that the invisible talent what you where expecting and it came into light... You are neither wrong or correct here. You just need to assume what you have done is right and make believe others also what you have done is right. Continue doing the same….
