Trending @Infosys; Working in Project but my status is still in bench

I have been working on a project for almost 2 months, but my status is still marked as "on bench." Whenever I ask my manager, he says he will look into it, but nothing happens from his side. I'm totally confused about what to do. Should I stay in this project or ask to be release? If I ask for a release, will I be terminated for refusing the project? (I'm a fresher here.)
