If manager wants to know they can see your records. But it has to be done explicitly. So if they're not micro managers and you get the work done, they won't check it...

Not sure about mail, but seems people started tracking this pattern. And for ODC folks, managers can easily see the time from logs when people do it. I also got a caution, that not to do or inform others to not make it a habit in team
