Trending @Infosys; Request for release to bench

I joined Infy as a fresher in Jan '22 and have been in the production support project from past 2 years. As i was not seeing any growth in my knowledge and compensation I asked my manager for release mentioning the same reason as above. But due to my dependency and performance they denied to release. {Got a rating of 2nd i.e. Commendable in recent rating cycle.} After that in Nov '23 I stopped showing interest in the project task and stopped replying to leads and manager mails.(was only ) Mean while I started working on my coding and developer roles skills.

In March' 24 end things got escalated to Group Project Manager and had a call with them explaining my career aspirations.

Now yesterday my manager offered a developer + support role but they are not ready to revise my compensation. The new role needs more dedication and commitment. But I just don't want to pick it up due to 3.6 lpa salary and would like to stick with release.

Is my decision right keeping current market scenario in mind?

What is the probability that once you are released from the project, you will get a development project

Exactly. It's a risky bet!

Risky is also fine as long as he/she owns the decision. But it's actually better to stay , get real time hands on in the dev role you get, spend 4 to 5 months, know a little bit about any kind of project work, different use cases or business requirements and use them in building your resume to make a switch.

I understand your situation. Current scenario isn't good, both inside and outside. There aren't many projects available so you might not get a new one quickly which might lead to PIP training and what not. I would suggest you to keep your current project and prepare for a switch on the side. Also, don't spoil your repo/relationship with your manager as that might lead to termination as per the current scenario. Wishing you the best!
