Trending @Infosys; Rant over on the manager.

I have received an offer of 8 LPA, while my current salary is 4.5 LPA. I joined as a fresher 3.7 years ago. To formally address this, I asked my manager if a salary revision was possible here.

She said company policy doesn’t allow it and mentioned, ‘You’ll get what others are getting.' I explained that after WFO (Work From Office), it’s hard to manage expenses—especially with the high cost of living and travel in metro cities. However, she compared her salary with mine. She responded, ‘What can we do? A huge part of your salary goes to rent, but we can’t change company policies.’ I argued that policies should also benefit employees—otherwise, what’s the point?

The point I’m making is: How can someone earning 1 Lakh plus per month compare their situation with someone earning just 30K? It’s completely unfair.

If you are joined as a fresher, try to get better pay outside; there is no growth here, and there is no point in expecting anything from them.

And you think he or she started at that salary? Markets are good there is lot of free VC money and lot of GCC are setting up in India. So there is lot of competition for talent You getting double salary is not because you are great but there only few people with your training and experience which infosys provided. Ride the wave and make money!! Infosys model is billing based and there will be a pyramid. It will fail if there are not more JL3 at low salary in a team.

Yes, agreed. But lets assume she started in the 2000s—back then, gold was ₹440 per gram; now it’s ₹7,900. Just think about the inflation! Yet, freshers' salaries are still the same. There’s more supply of now, but she didn’t start the same way as today’s freshers do.

It’s not you vs her. It’s the unit economics of manpower based model most Indian outsourcing companies like infosys have. There is hardly any change in billing rates for the largest accounts in infosys , so where will they foot the higher wage bill from. In few years we may become more of contracting companies paid as per our billing and unpaid when not on project.

I strongly agreed to this as my situation is also the same after spending 3.7 years here. They won't give more than a spoon with water, I got an offer of 8 LPA, my manager told me they won't give more than 1.5 lakh hikes at this moment.

So I made a decision and leaving infosys after the end of this month.

Yes, Infosys can’t give more than 20% not sure why. Not only this most of the top mncs won’t give much retention hikes.
