Do we need to notify or get permission from the manager before applying to accelerate tasks? I was in production but now on the bench. So, I wanted to try accelerate tasks till I get allocated to the next project.

Absolutely! Doing accelerate tasks is way better. It keeps you busy, sharpens your skills, and shows your value. Being on the bench is just wasting time.
