Releasing from support(if your project manager is good to hear concerns )]by not working is
not a suggestable way bcz you are bypassing the actual your need by showing
Unnecessary behavior ,
First check yourself you have required skills to jump into other projects or else apply for IJPs which is internal job posting it will be very help to you if really want to move out current project ,
2.you can pitch your concerns to your manager in professional way why you need to get release from this project .
3.do your work and parallel try to get release they will try to convince but you are clear you can easily come out .

Don't work don't reply to them
They’ll simply say that they’ve put your name on the tracker and they’ll reach out to you regarding release once your number comes. That’s a trap, they’ll not gonna release you from a support project. If by 1% chance you got release from support, again they gonna put you in a support project
