I submitted my CIBIL score…for background check they visited my home town and my 15 year old first company too. These banks clients have strict regulations to adhere because they handle high net worth clients and they are quite strict since periodic audit is done and if they found not following any guidelines then a hefty fines will be imposed on them by regulators…they are not worried about money they would loose … they are worried about loosing the REPUTATION…. And credibility …. Would you like your money to be managed by some corrupt institution or individual? No right…!!! Same rules implies here to contractors like TCS or Infy who caters their client in US or Germany …

Drug testing is common. Many companies do random check when working from office after long weekends.
Asking for drug tests is quite common if your client deals with any of those big american banks or you end up working with them. It’s a PITA but that’s your client requirement and not unique to TCS at all.
