Trending @Infosys; Choosing the Right Work Location: Impact on Career Growth

Hello everyone,

I've secured a position as a Consultant at Infosys Consulting, with Hyderabad as my designated location. As a North Indian, I find myself contemplating a location change closer to home, considering either Chandigarh or Jaipur.

However, I've encountered differing opinions regarding the significance of a work location in relation to career growth. Some suggest that proximity to major corporate offices enhances visibility, project opportunities, and potential for advancement.

I'm now at a crossroads and seek your insights. Does the location of one's work truly impact career progression? Should I prioritize Hyderabad for its potential advantages in building my career, or would opting for tier two cities like Jaipur or Chandigarh suffice?

I appreciate any guidance you can offer! Thank you.

Yes , it does impact your career progression ...here in jaipur dc situation is so bad there are so many employees who are on bench and not getting any project opportunity because there is no such projects here , higher management preffer people who are in tier 1 city as they want team to work together and as project opportunity are more in those city, if you are working in a project and your manager allows you to work from jaipur then go ahead otherwise it's difficult to get into project from dc's like jaipur also you will get less exposure here so better work in tier 1 city...this is my observation over the period of time.

Yes they are right. Especially in IC you can’t be sitting out of low visibility offices like Jaipur. Chandigarh May still be ok. Also depends on which domain you have joined. Problem is most big clients have offshore development centers in the big city offices of infosys. No working from these cities means you close yourself to these opportunities. Anyways if they have recruited you for Hyderabad they won’t be transferring you to tier 2 dcs even if you request. Not at 25L+ you will be drawing in IC.

Actually, Hyderabad wasn't specifically assigned to me; I provided my top three preferences during the recruitment process, and Hyderabad happened to be one of them. Additionally, the HR mentioned that we could discuss a location change once the final decision is made.

Nevertheless, I understand your perspective, and I think I'll adhere to the location I've been given.

Thank you for your input :)
