Trending @Infosys; Can we get unit change in Retention?

I wasn’t getting released from project and the last resort was putting my papers. But this morning a thought came in my mind, if I ask for a unit change as retention will that work? Because generally retentions are given on basis of how critical resource one is in the project. But here I don’t want any hike, just unit change. Any chances will this work :)
