I have an acquaintance who joined HCL just a year ago but his payslip does not have his number mentioned in the UAN number section and he is wondering if this is due to one year probation period?

True, they might have either been placed out of college as a fresher / they might have missed to see the same mentioned while signing offer letter. This cannot be rectified unless their band changes or they move to a different company.
