It depends on the project status. Usually if there is lots of dependency you might have to stay for 3 months. If the assignment end date is with in 3 months and if Management has no way of extending your assignment this case you might get early release. General tip, when you are preparing to leave, start removing the dependency organically. If there are team mates well and good, of no one are around document your responsibilities and you knowledge on your assignment.
They don't want to release early by saying HR policies and asking for settlement money if I want to get early release without serving notice for 3 months.
Agree, I faced different experience in my previous company. They did not allow me to leave early before 2 months even if there is no assignment. During this time, RM tried to retake giving some other opportunities
