Trending @HCL; HCL Free health checkup mystery.

I wanted to know whether this health checkup is really free? I contacted their toll free number a couple of times and every time they mentioned that check up is free but you will have to pay tax while filing ITR.

The Tax payable is dependent on the persons age and per individual as per tax bracket I am in (30%)

It comes to 6000+5000+900 approx for 3 of us.

If I have to pay this amount instead I can get health checkup done in this amount and claim it as deduction in 80 D. Whats the point then in going for HCL Free health checkup.

Can anyone please throw some light on it?

Thanks in advance 🙂

Hi, I did it for me, my wife and my parents and I had to pay tax on 13.5k which comes out ₹4050 approx (30% tax). HCL health checkup includes blood tests, eye test, female specific tests, ecg, x-ray for parents, physio consultation and physician doctor consultation post reports as well. I think I covered all, not sure if I missed anything. I don't think any health checkup can cover all 4 people in this amount, if you know about any other place which offers all this in less price do let me know as well.

Thank you for the response buddy. In your case it was a good deal. However I still don't understand why we have to pay tax whereas we can claim deduction for it.

1 mg also offers a good amount of tests in around Rs. 2500

I don't think it's a deal specific to me, it is the same for all, since we are using some service, so we have to pay tax on it. Suppose you don't get these tests done and you get that amount in your salary then you have to pay tax. So it is just the other way round. They also have other tests which are highly discounted as compared to other labs or sites. I have used their services post comparison. Doctors and nurses are also very trained and you can show around the office campus to your family as well.

I think if you do in some corporate hospitals for 4 of you master health checkup it will be 12k or less than that. You will get considerable discounts as well as show that in 80D. I’m not sure what’s the point if tax is to be paid.

There is no way of skipping, they will add it automatically in your income and will show up in the tax calculation section in your payslip. Amount will be added as perks to your gross income in the tax calculation section.
