Trending @Cognizant; Promotion Deferment Due to RTO Compliance Despite Medical Approval
Hello everyone,
I wanted to share an issue I faced recently regarding my promotion being deferred due to RTO compliance in May 2024. I had submitted a medical certificate and received approval from my leaders to work from home during that period. Despite this, my manager received an email stating that my promotion was deferred because of RTO non-compliance.
My manager argued with HR and senior management, explaining the situation and the medical approval I had received. However, HR responded by asking if they were involved in the initial approval process, which they were not.
This situation raises a concern: if we receive approval from our leaders based on valid medical reasons, shouldn’t they be responsible for ensuring HR is informed? It seems unfair that the responsibility falls on the employee, leading to consequences like deferred promotions.
Has anyone else faced a similar issue? How was it resolved, and what steps did you take to prevent such issues in the future?
Thank you for any advice or insights.
Best regards, Shivam Agrawal

This should be considered, but Cognizant HR is worst.

My promotion also got deferred due to RTO non-compliance, where I did not attend the office for a couple of weeks in 3 months. This is not resolved, but I was told we should be compliant to RTO for 3 months at least.
After I got to know that my promotion got deferred on basis of uninformed rule added which was not in notice, I was very disappointed after waiting for this promotion for 2.5 years and worked for top ratings for last two years, then I started looking to make a switch knowing that I don't deserved this treatment even being eligible for this promotion since 5 years (total years of experience in Cognizant 7 years).
And I put the papers within two weeks from my promotion deferred.

Your manager can submit exception for approval to HR. Please ask him to check with his PDL and talent manager for the process

It was your manager's responsibility to get approval from HR.
Ask you manager why he/she has not done.
Forward the approval mail to the HR.
If the HR still doesn't agree then my friend you cannot do anything. Discuss this with other managers and figure a way out.
