18moTrending @Cognizant; Getting a project from bench
Hi all, I just wanted to share that after 4 months of struggle. I was finally able to bag a project. The intention of this post is to share some tips which I used to get into a project, in hope that they might be useful.
- Always stay in touch with your home manager. As simple as this may sound, I've seen many never texting their home manager. Because of many resources being tagged to them, they often forget our existence and how desperate we are to get project. So be that pesky little annoying reminder to your manager.
- Upskill. I know many be like "I did this course, but pointless" etc., but here me out. Upskill in technology that you can fake, not something completely new. Here's an example, say you are exp in JAVA but never worked in JS, learn JS and apply for JS projects as well. If someone asks you whether you worked on JS, SAY YES.
- Reach multiple people. In my case, I mailed and spoke to atleast 30 people in my technology. That is neither less nor too many, in your case that number could be higher. Thing is, keep reaching out.
- Stop worrying. This is not the only company in the world, even if after all your efforts, you don't get a project, do not worry. Something bugger is waiting for you.
I would like to end with a note that, situation is very grim. Off late am seeing lot of negativity and sad news of people getting fired. Today it could be someone else, tomorrow it could be either of us. So , stay strong. You faced 100s of battles already, project ain't the toughest, so it definitely shouldn't be the one that is keeping you awake at night. ALL THE BEST.
