I had been deployed to 3 projects. None of these people in projects were speaking in hindi even majority were from north. Just when our friends were only in call we used to talk in hindi. I even learnt some marathi and kannada words during project calls. This stupid question never came in my mind. I believe if you know multiple languages your brain gets developed. And it's no shame to try and learn new things. If you go ahead with your current attitude in career then probably you'll face this every time.

Same here, I too come from non hindi speaking state. But when I moved to Bangalore, it was smooth & same happened when I was in Pune.

That's usually the case everywhere. Not only Hindi but team mates speak in other regional languages too if it's common and more in number. In such a case, please politely let them know that you don't understand Hindi. I am positive they'll understand and converse in English afterwards.

I am a North Indian, presently at Hyderabad location in CG. Bro here no one speaks in English or Hindi. Everyone speaks Telugu weather normal conversations or team meeting. Its very frustrating that atleast in campus and meetings one must speak English.

Maybe this trouble you as "associate consultant". But as you work more and develop experience, you will realise it is common for humans to interact in the language they are comfortable in or can switch easily.

Example: in office if two Tamil speaker meet, they will talk in Tamil. And will use some good cuss words and make workplace bit more better.
Similarly few Hindi speaking might be having chai sutta and cursing company.

But when these two groups comes to more officials work. Like group meeting or conference call, they start in english only. Or in case before going totally in Hindi whole panel confirms if all are ok with Hindi.

That's how it works.

I have a colleague from Kerala, she do not know Hindi. If she is in call we talk in english if she is not we talk hindi or marathi.

You understand this better when you become at least a "consultant"
