Trending @Capgemini; Has anyone noticed any discrimination based on where people are from within Capgemini?

I am facing discrimination at its peak. I am the only North Indian in my team, and no one talks to me. Two or three times, I joined them for lunch, but they still talked in their local language, ignoring me and asking me to learn 60% Kannada.

Any comments ??

It’s good that you can listen to Kannada all the time. You can learn the language easily. Tell them you are trying to learn the language and ask them to help instead. Take it as a learning experience than thinking it in a negative way. By the way I am not a native of Karnataka but I did learn a language other than Hindi, English and my mother tongue.

Why should I bother learning Kannada? In five years, I'll probably be back in Hyderabad, and then they'll expect me to learn Telugu. At least if I work for an MNC, I can get by with English since it's spoken everywhere.

Good Question, I suggest you leave the company and try for big 5, there they don't use any language other than English.

Becoming adamant is not a solution. Do you think if you don't learn kannada you will not feel discriminated.

You are here for the solution and all are providing a solution.

Just for name sake, put your leg in their boot and think in opposite way. You will get the answer.

P.S I am not kannadiga but I am also facing the descrimination but I know if I have to survive I may have to learn kannada or act like I am learning or I will try to use SpeakUp portal to raise this concern in Capgemini highers.

Even though I am from the south all the team mates are from the north. They also only talk in their local language. So many times I told them to speak in English it would be better for me to understand. Even Hindi is ok to understand for me but they talk in Marati.

Hey I too faced this , I am from Maharashtra and in my team all were from Bangalore, so they spoke their native language and I feel left out. Infact when they train or have meetings on they Suddenly start in their native language and don’t even care if i was understanding it. They cared for their people only and never tried to make me feel as a team. It was very hard time for me in KT period of mine.

To be honest, typical Indian tendency. It's prevalent almost everywhere. Nothing against anyone, but I personally find it disheartening that in spite of all the good education and progressive thoughts, people are so biased towards their own people even till today.

This is not about Capgemini it's in general everywhere in India.. In North India you talk in your local language rather than all the time in english. I was faced with when I was in Bengaluru in another organisation. They talked mostly in Kannad rarely in Hindi.
