Trending @Accenture; Thriving Without My Manager, Struggling With Them

Last week, while my manager was away, things ran surprisingly smoothly: • I was more relaxed and able to manage my time effectively, without causing any delays. • I completed all my assigned tasks and even received positive feedback during client calls. • Despite a busy schedule, I didn’t feel overwhelmed—in fact, I genuinely enjoyed the work.

However, the moment Monday arrived, the stress kicked in even before I logged in. As soon as I did, my manager scheduled an hour-long call. A few weeks ago, they had asked me to update a presentation deck, but I didn’t have access at the time. I shared the information on a slide, and they mentioned they’d incorporate it. They just had to take the slide I sent and add it to the deck. They never did it, and now they’re holding me accountable, questioning why I didn’t complete it now that I have access.

Throughout the day, they continuously message me with new tasks—many of which are actually their responsibilities.

They are also unwilling to allocate more resources to the team, assuming the current project pace is slow enough for me to handle everything alone.

More recently, they’ve started pointing out minor issues in my work, often with a critical tone: “Why isn’t this done? Any reason?”—even when there’s a valid explanation.

How are we supposed to work in this culture of micromanagement and non-accountability?
