Trending @Accenture; Shouldn't HRA be equal to the average rent in the city your base location is? Why govt can't bring such rule? Can't we raise voice?

Most likely you are L11 or L10 because L9 and above can set HRA as per their choice

Thanks, I didn't know that. I'm below L9

Still you will end up subtracting that amount from base pay only. His Q was HRA amount should be based on city rent avg .

Govt cant do anything which makes sense to the salaried class. Imagine even after paying so much tax at source, you still can't get your work done smoothly in the same way as someone in a government sector job with power and influence or a politician. So don't expect much. Fly away if you can.

Agree with other points but fly away doesn't makes sense for most of us since our families are based here. There is always a problem of getting kicked out and living in unknown places far from dear ones is horrible.

HRA is calculated from base pay and base pay depends on organisations. Even if the salary is same some organisations pay more as base salary.
Some people pay very high rents compared to salaries or way higher than average rent. If govt bring such rules there is a high chance that this will be misused.

Appreciate the explanation, 2 questions I have.

  1. If HRA is calculated on base pay then why some company pays really high HRA, I came across a case where company is paying the guy 3.5L HRA, he didn't mention but I'm certain this amount should be per annum.
  2. If, hypothetically, govt brings the rule, it is going to misused by who? And how? And what would stop govt to put measures to prevent such misuses?

Pardon my curiosity but i really want to understand the shady bond between a company and govt that keeps both of them fat but leaves employees exploited. Thanks in advance
