I know of a case where 1 was a very good performer but used to get into constant arguments with the supervisor, eventually he was rolled off when there were more good performers to replace him. At the same time another person on the same team was a bad performer with similar tantrums, and he was put in PIP.
But it depends on the supervisor's nature/personality really.

As per HR you have to be atleast 18 months in a project before you ask for roll off. This is all official. Now, unofficial- The only way is to convince your manager
