Why are most of the articles I am seeing related to PIP? Is it like every time the appraisal cycle will be there some of the team members will be put in PIP? Just to play safe I am taking feedback from all of my superiors so that in case they play with me I'll show their feedback to them.

Yes, it is a normal practice to put the people on PIP every appraisal cycle, mostly for the ones who can be replaced by juniors.
But this mid year appraisal in June. Promotion will be very less and more be the PIPs. They want to let go people.
