Is PIP a legal way to force any employee out of the company? Should that person start looking for another job and should not accept PIP? Is coming back from a PIP next to impossible since I have heard employees are tortured with unexpected deadlines?

PIP is actually a legal way to fire people but again depends on the situation. Do you really think you deserve pip? If yes, then there is scope of improvement and you will come get a fair chance. But in most cases it's an extreme step and shouldn't be expected to revert favorably

Thanks for the response. My dilemma is regarding that "fair" chance. If it were fair, then the conversion ratio wouldn't have been so low. So, what are the options one have? a. Should they resign before accepting the PIP and serve 3 months notice period? b. Accent PIP and get grilled and get expelled within weeks? Do they get full 3 months of payment if expelled during the PIP process?
There is no option to not accept PIP, they expell only at the end of the PIP process. Best approach is to immediately start searching for another job as soon as one is put on PIP.

Can u share more details, like in which department you heard people getting pip?

I have heard from Supply Chain and Industry X folks. Don't know about other

One of my friend got PIP just bcoz he was not assigned into any project....

If getting pip is unexpected, better look for an external job and don't wait for things to take a favorable turn here. Nothing is more important than job security

In case one would continue with the PIP and the manager decides to terminate them just after 1 or 2 weeks, will that person still me entitled for 3 months notice period or he needs to leave in 15 days?
