Trending @Accenture; Need advice: Managing forced relocation while caring for critically ill child

I’m with Accenture, and my child has a critical health condition that often requires hospitalization and constant care. Despite this, the company is forcing me to return to the office and relocate, citing “company policy.”

My assigned base location is about 700 km away, and even traveling there once a week is a major challenge given my family situation. Relocating full-time feels unreasonable, especially when flexibility could easily be provided.

Unfortunately, due to current market conditions, quitting the job isn’t financially possible right now.

Has anyone in India faced a similar situation? How did you navigate it? Any suggestions on how to handle this without risking my job?

Feeling bad for you sorry to hear about your situation and hope your child feels good soon.

Sorry to say this is why the company has got this policy, they want to fire people but can't do without reasons. This is one of the reason to fire people,no one can help you in this case. There is a limit you can get extension, now either you'll have to visit office or resign.

Thank you for the kind words.

Yes, they’re showing their true colors, and I don’t want to relocate just to follow orders, especially since the Kolkata base location doesn’t have many opportunities. I’m applying to other companies and will relocate if needed for a new employer, but not for Accenture.

Currently at which location and where they are asking to go? Have you not gone office till now ? Try to go to current location via flight and return same day too. These people have no empathy, i go to noida via flight every week and return same day 24k is the overall expense.

My base location is Kolkata. I’ve been traveling there weekly, often staying over weekends to mark attendance on Monday, but with my child’s health condition, it’s not always possible. My salary is less than 10 LPA. Flights are too costly with loans, EMIs, and hospital bills. I take the train but general and non-AC sleeper coaches aren’t safe as my laptop could be stolen while I sleep or go to the washroom so I have to book AC seats. Also, I usually have to take leaves as the train timings are in the afternoon from my tier-2 or tier-3 location.

I am facing the same issue. My home is in NE and there are no accenture offices here. I chose kolkata as base location as that is the nearest location and now because of parent’s hearth that requires constant blood tests and doc visits, I am unable to relocate completely. Even though manager is allowing but HR is not aligned and not ready to listen to any pointers or even look at the medical documents. And more over, HR is saying we can approve wfh but have to be at base location. If I am at base location, why will I need/request wfh 😓 no logic only these people.

I pray for a speedy recovery for your father. I hope they get Karma if God still exists 🤞
Bro/Sis if you're comfortable ping me your contact so that we can connect as we are from the same base location.

Same like your case for me also, I have travelling issues still nobody listened to me and was forced to visit the office or they will terminate me . So now I'm adjusting things to save my job.

The thing is that everyone has legit, serious, and reasonable situations not to go office. HR and management don't listen to it. There are 100s of people coming up with variety of problems which are legitimate as well. You can start searching for remote job or some other hybrid job..

I have started doing that from a few months.

Isn't there an exception that you can apply for?? Since your situation is dier i thing with proper documentation they will allow on the same?

I did apply for an exception for few months but only got for 30 days

I will tell you something. There is 1 lady who has got an approved WFH due to some family issues. Our manager helped her to get this exception. I have been in this project for a year now and she has never been to the office. Check with your senior manager/DU lead/PMO if they can help you with this.

I am a man and there are only 1-2 months of exceptions that can be granted. HR has straight away rejected 90 days of exception and told me that she will only for 1 month of exception she will approve. If I was a woman I would get 6 months of primary caregiver leaves and additional leaves if needed but men are not considered primary caregivers even though I am the sole bread-winner and my family is dependent on me.

You can raise 90 days of exception by keeping your senior manager and HR in loop. Your people would have a link or ask Hr for it if you have not exhausted it yet.

I have already raised it and the HR has rejected it.

Directly talk with your project PMO. If you are a critical resource they will provide OIT. Otherwise ask for rolloff and move to other project which is in your location, they will give you OIT.

I have talked with the MU, DU leads, my people lead and the HR (which is useless). I don't know if I am the critical response but the project has dependency on me. OIT can't be possible as Accenture doesn't have any offices at my location which is a tier-2 city. Roll-off is risky as Accenture is firing people on the bench who don't get a project within a month
