Your MAL has connection to promotion but subject to other criteria such as your continuous performance feedback, budget, role visibility in your project, how many people can be promoted in your DU or market,……higher MAL is also a negative as it can also be assumed or perceived that your performance is not at par and hence u not been considered. So, think on these lines
