Trending @Accenture; ID card surrender after transfer

Hi all i recently got my transfer from Pune to Bangalore. I got a mail from helpdesk to surrender my previous ID card and get the new one from new location with some deadline. Is it really needed to change ID card because as far as i know the same ID is valid accross all offices in India. Please someone let me know if you know anything regarding this
