It depends on your overall goal. If you want more saving in terms of EPF+ NPS then you should adjust your basic upto 50%. (Basic should be greater then 35%). In this case you will have less tax liability and more saving in long run.

Option 2: keep basic as low as 35% and invest your in hand salary in MF/stocks/Ulip etc. In this case your in hand will be more but this will increase tax liability.
