Toxic Work culture at TCS

A close colleague of mine (female) is going through hell at work, being threatened by both her manager and team lead. They’ve said things like “If you don’t work the way we want, we’ll screw up your profile so bad, you won’t get a job anywhere.”

The irony? She’s the only automation tester in the team, working late nights, early mornings, even weekends, just to keep things afloat. But instead of support, she's being targeted, especially by the lead. It’s clear they’re exploiting her dedication, thinking she’ll cave under pressure.

She’s depressed, anxious, and constantly in tears. Quitting seems to be the only option left for her, though she’s worried that even a resignation might be used against her. I suggested asking for a proper release, but she’s unsure if that would help.

What’s worse? This manager-lead duo has a history of using threats, but others in the team push back. She, on the other hand, has been cooperative, maybe that’s why they keep piling on more and more.

Any advice on how she should deal with this? Anyone been in the same situation? Any advice on how she should deal with this? Has anyone been in a similar situation?

I went through the same. Only one solution. Retaliate. Jitna jhukoge utna jhukaya jayega. Jitna paisa milta hai utna kaam karo. Samaaj sewa nai krna hai. Appraisal ke waqt waise bhi inko yaad nai rhega aapka dedication. Once you start doing overtime and working on weekends they will start torturing you even more.

I also faced the same thing, very toxic environment in my project,as in my team also I was the only person used to wrk,out of thing,I have been started asking release continuously, but no responses ignored and all…almost after 6-8 months I have got released but still they are not ready to leave me and kept under them only in different project without my knowledge and consent,so now iam fighting for that again.. So here HR or anyone is always with management only,no HR nor anyone will accept that management is wrong,so the only step is better keep resignation mail ,involve HR and other management also in the resignation mail, once after resignation they cant force her post frst mnth..as they need to check for their replacement…during that some teammate/lead can ask about do you have any offers, just mention it as yes,Iam having offer,so that ,if the info passed aswell, they need to think you are fearless now.. Post resignation we will get a survey, where she can mention that resignation can be taken back under project release…so might be HR can reach her back post 2mnths of resignation and given project release or else she can looks for new opportunities under these 3mnths Notice So without fear,Proceed with resignation and then look for opportunities if there is no much financial dependency…

If we say I will take resignation back if you release, they never accept because they won't pay without any work.

Just ask them to try by escalating it to higher management or else directly to the client if both aren't working for you then the only option that will be left which already one of grapevine member commented is taking long leave I mean until they get frustrated leading to their release

This is not acceptable, Tell them to have a discussion with Project Manager or higher if no one understands ask them to release, talk to HR and HR unit head if required. If she says no to work on weekends they can't do anything. Just say you have different priorities on weekends. If she works less the manager will come under pressure and will do anything she says.

Drop a mail to the project head and HR head, explain everything this will save from any future trouble as you already communicated earlier before them. Ask for release directly and say work place been toxic and inhumane. They will take care of this thing.

I am also going through the same, no release, no credit for good work and all blame comes to me in case of any escalation. It's like I am the dump box all bad things should be thrown at me no matter who is actually responsible. All other leafs and manager are doing this intentionally as they all joined the project at same time and I joined later and couldn't match their level.no idea what to do
