Today's Interview Experience - Disappointed and Drained

Today I had one of the most disappointing interview experiences in my career — and I’ve faced rejections before, but this was different.

The interviewer, from LTI Mindtree, came across as completely dismissive and lacked basic courtesy. Right from the start, he didn’t ask for any introduction or try to understand my background. I assumed he had gone through my resume, so I didn’t insist. However, as the conversation progressed, it became clear he hadn't even glanced at it properly.

The role was clearly listed as requiring OpenShift/Kubernetes expertise, but the entire discussion was focused on Linux system administration, which I had clearly mentioned I don't have hands-on experience with. Despite me politely clarifying this, he kept pushing unrelated questions — seemingly just to showcase his own knowledge rather than assess mine.

At one point, I even asked him directly: "Have you gone through my resume?" He said yes, but when I have asked about my years of experience, he said 4.7 years. I corrected him and said I have 3 years. He then replied, 'Yeah, I got your resume last night, so that’s why' — which implies he hadn’t even opened it properly before the interview, later he turned defensive and accused me of lacking manners and not answering any of his questions. He then went on a rant about his 13+ years of experience and how he deals with people like me every day.

Frankly, the entire interaction left me unfocused and frustrated for the rest of the day. I’ve been rejected before — that’s part of the process — but never have I faced such a condescending attitude. Most interviewers, even when rejecting candidates, are respectful and try to understand the individual’s experience and fit for the role.

Has anyone else faced similar experiences where it felt like the interview was more about the interviewer’s ego than about the actual role or candidate?

This happens only in India, i have had worked with All the European region clients, US but never had any issues cracking interviews. Indians IT employees always want put down others showing they are highly talented. Don't loose hope, keep trying. Good luck.

bhai even though i agree with you, i feel we can be the change.
our generation sees that other countries are better than us because of who they are.
We can't change the previous generations' work ethic but i hope when it's your turn you will try your best to make the interview comforting. as a responsibility guide the person and be more kind in general.
while also helping others and keeping the socialistic mindset related to family and culture alive (my preference that's all).

True bro, only indian employee so much hectic. They always try to put you down and show themselves greater. I have worked with Italian employees, they were very supportive and helpful but in the other hand my lead from Pune user to shout everytime.

That sounds like a horrible experience, I would say Congratulations on being rejected. I always dedicated my 5 mins to talk about everything other than resume, skills and other important things.

Luckily I have two offers in hand but if someone doesn’t have any other choice it can be very depressing and make them doubt their skills and the work they’ve done so far.

growth mindset is to take everything positive and learn from it.
what if he blacklisted you from the company?
what if he bad mouthed you in front of his friends and other interviewers?

May be you are over reacting but it's okay. friend for a friend. If it's your bad day, i would want to stand with you.

Also professionally thinking even if you were wrong and impolite it's the interviewer's duty to be nice because he is representing the company and be more mature because he is at a position of power.

feel for you brother

During the interview I realized he hadn't reviewed my CV and didn’t ask for an introduction. His arrogant behavior made me ask if he’d gone through it. I regret cross-questioning, but I felt it was necessary. It’s discouraging, especially for those without another offer, who really want to work on that project.I have also taken this positively. This will definitely help me in handling future arrogant people. I appreciate your feedback.

They should record the interview and evaluate by one level up, mine one was not recorded.

Don't expect Good things from LTIM and their interviewers. The same happened with me also but somehow I managed and tackled the situation and got on boarded.

Most of all, I appreciate you asking him "Have you gone through my resume?". That being said, the interviewer sounds like an idiot

Interviewers also need to be prepared before coming for an interview. The same happened with me as well, when an interviewer was asking me every question out of my resume and non relevant to the job role.

I gave interview at LTIM. Interviewer came and started reading questions from ai or I don't know where. Then asked me to write a code and then without discussing anything ended the interview

Agree with you bro, it’s really disappointed incident. The interviewer was really nonsense and stupid if he has gone through the resume then why he was asking questions out of Syllabus.
