Tips for negotiation.

I have been presented with a job offer from a remote startup. I would like to explore the possibility of increasing the compensation, but I am unsure how to approach the negotiation process. As a beginner with no prior experience in negotiations, any guidance or assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your help.

What worked for me is:

  • Figure out how much is your target salary from the current offer.
  • Once you know the difference identify the industry standard for that role and build your case using these informations.

Because if your target is higher than industry standard your points really need to be around why you need a higher compensation be it family situation or personal goals for saving etc, people are really considerate when you have a good reason. And if your offered value is less than industry standard , make sure you fight for the buck you deserve. It’s a very awkward process for sure but I would say talking to hiring manager is easier than convincing an HR.
