Time to switch companies these days

The more I talk to people who are switching jobs, the more I learn they took 6-12 months. Big techs are holding offers and even delaying. People are ghosted for months just for the next round of interview. One of my friend received an offer after 12 months. Is this really the case?

There are also people who have multiple offers in hand as also a company willing to retain them. Are you talking of the time from prep to offer or selection to offer?
