This year has drained me
Hello fellas,
Just wanted to share. This was kind of been a tough year for me. I work in tech, living alone, my girlfriend broke up earlier this year, losing my job. I have 3yoe and I'm about to be laid off the second time.
The first time I was let go was after the startup(seed) I worked at (for 1yr) got funded and the founder decided to pivot and let me go 3 months later.
I prepared and got into another startup(series A) at a decent comp jump. Been here for 2 years now. I used to maintain a wide separation between work and personal life but the manager is not happy because of this and has stopped trusting me. I think I'll be let go in a month or two max.
Being laid off so many times so early in my career has started having an effect on me, I keep wondering whether I'd be able to find "stability" or be able to plan for the future this way.
I lived very frugally so I have my savings to rely on but I just want to understand if this is normal? Has anyone faced similar situations? I'm open to any advice...

I got laid of thrice in 3 years, and working with a big mnc, so it is part of life, this too shall pass. It’s always for the good. Trust the process

I got laid off thrice, then was jobless for a year. Joined bootstrap startups at 1/6th of my salary and still working that way.
Though sometimes I get really frustrated, I just have to say that life is more of a marathon than sprint and everything will fall into place at some point in time. It’s just to not lose hope.

I'm trusting God's plan here 🙏

Did you not try joining any MNC? Or are you in very high pay bracket which they can’t give? Usually these situations won’t come in large MNCs (even many product based). Start ups having these issues, is well known aspect.

Given my tech stack and background, it has always been easier for me to get into startups. Plus, to get a reasonable comp jump, I'll have to target faang. I'm not exactly sure if I'm cut out for it. But also I never tried.

Try mid level pbcs first . It gets easier for faang

What do you mean by: " I used to maintain a wide separation between work and personal life but the manager is not happy because of this and has stopped trusting me."
Did you just maintain work life balance? Did you not interact much in the office and team? If later then these people will assume you aren't a team player and not bonding with the team and this will be a problem in most companies in India at least. So you may need to change that and start ups in general are risky. If you are looking for stability maybe look for companies that are established instead of startups.

Bro upar wala sab dekh raha hai, just believe in that and don’t stop your hustle, you’ll realise after some time that why did these bad things happen. Eventually everything will fall into place.

Trusting God's plan, all of this would be happening for a reason 🙏

I have also been laid off twice in 4.5 YoE career, including from the first company where i was recruited as a fresher. PIP and then layoff. Don't worry about these, in private sector this happens from time to time. Always be on your toes, keep learning and don't take stress. Just work diligently and with full focus/concentration

This entire work life balance and boundary line between the two theory of social media and GenZs are ruining the culture. There should never be that hard boundary and absolute segregation between the two. Your work should enrich/fulfil you and make you feel satisfied. If thats not happening and you feel like you need totally separate time to live a life, then you are in a wrong career. I am an employee and if I see or hear anyone says this that they like to have clear distinguished boundary between work and life, i wont hire them. I really won't trust them ever with any work or quality of work. Your manager is not at fault for not trusting you. Work is 80% of your entire life and day to day routine. If you are having to separate your life away from work, you are not doing the right job then. There should be harmony between the two, not balance or segregation or separation. If you are not feeling absolutely pumped and jumpyass about the work you are doing and not feeling proud of your output, then its probably a sign that you need to keep looking for a better calling. Get done with the work life balancing concept and mix the two for an equilibrium, else there will be problem forever.

Thank you, I understand. I used to be highly motivated once. After my relationship started withering away, i pulled back the amount of time and effort I was putting in work to try and fix it. But sadly, this created more problems and now I'm in a situation where I have neither.

In the same boat as you. Gf always looking for a way out, got laid off twice in my 2.5 year long career even though I delivered as expected. Just because I wasn't outgoing enough to talk about non work related matters. Trying to get into a faang this time to avoid this startup bullshit but no luck, only getting interview calls from no name startups with bad reviews.

Thank you for sharing, how are you holding up?

Doing fine, thanks. Currently interviewing for a new job.

Make these as your stepping stone, dont get demotivated. I was unemployed for 1.5yrs, finally got 6 offers.

Suggest me trick to grab so many offers while dealing with mandatory 3 months np

No trick bro, bas apna karm karte raho interview m give your best shot. Dont get demotivated if u dp not crack. I gave around 35-38 interviews then finally got the offers. So bhai karm karte raho, bina fal k chinta kiye bas give your best.

After having more than a decade of experience in It. what all matters is-your skillet and integrity..don’t let such setbacks let you go down but learn from it and rise up..this is what life is all about! setbacks, hurdles, happiness, nothing is permanent.Life is full of challenges and failures but at the end, how we get up every time we fail is what matters!

Thank you for your kind words 🙏
