This may come as controversial, but I agree to the opinion of "learning the state's/ city's language where you are based"

My take: I am aware that due to work we have to migrate to a newer environment. Now, its not to us to change the new environment, rather we should fit in the environment. How? By learning more about it. We should respect someone's culture, someone's language the same way we respect people when we are guest in their home. It's a two way street, they should not disrespect or discriminate based on language, neither should us. I am not saying you should be fluent, but you should atleast understand what the local there is saying in his language.

This ain't controversial at all.

The onus is always on the one who has moved to adjust and cause least inconvenience to ones already there.

Well, it's not a language class, it's work. Learn the local language? Sure, if you've time after 12-hour workdays. What's next, local dance forms?

I did 16 hour work days and I still learnt Kannada after coming to Bangalore. What's your point?

Don't come. If you cant adapt, no need to move to a newer environment

Why am I saying this? My cities language is dying. No one talks in it anymore. Me and family are literate enough to talk hindi, however, imagine the locals who are born in the city. Is it there fault or respinsibility to learn hindi? The very own culture of my city, the language also being a part of is getting abolished.

You've put it all in a nicely wrapped box! But remember, adapting does not mean surrendering your roots. Hindi chhodo nahi, seekho naye bhasha. What's your take on cultural integration?

Absolutely, adaptability is the key to survival. When in Rome, do as the Romans do. Isn't it exciting to learn a new language?
