The App Store and Play Store are a duopoly and we have allowed them way too much power. Atleast Android has options but Apple is a complete walled garden and they won the lawsuit against Epic like wtf

Every business & startups like Naukri, Shadi.com and Bharat Matrimony change/adjust their prices and what they offer to keep up with what's happening and what they need to run their businesses, Google's doing something similar with its Play Store rules. They're really trying to make things fair for everyone. Google gave app makers 3+ yrs to get on board with these new rules, showing they're trying to be reasonable. They even made a plan where if you don't want to use Google's payment system, you can use 3rd Party and only pay 11% to Google, or not use in-app payments at all and handle everything through the web. This way, they're keeping the app world open and flexible, making sure it stays a good place for both the folks making the apps and the people using them.

I second this. Its not charity. Plus google is flexible and these companies don't rant about apple and pays 30%
PhonePe soon enough

You can use Fdroid too

What PhonePe has done?

Kuku FM's Cofounder called out on this https://www.linkedin.com/feed/update/urn:li:activity:7169310092503318528/ But he doesn't share the terms that Google is asking for.
Epic Games had the guts to lead a similar battle with Apple Play store.
@Micheal_Scott, you have apps on both, can you share what terms do these ask for?

Depending on the size and reach of the app, in-app payment are charged anywhere between 15-30 percent, android charges one time developer fee and can list any number of apps, IOS I think has a fixed yearly developer renewal fee.
For this they provide the entire ecosystem access, like push notifications free upto a tier.
Any app developer planning to monetise should factor this while pricing their product
That awkward moment when you realise that Kuku's PR team when all out using Google being an investor in them for headlines in TechCrunch and Yahoo News.🤢 https://www.google.com/amp/s/techcrunch.com/2023/09/20/google-backed-indian-audio-platform-kuku-fm-raises-25-million/amp/

Why

They were given 3 years' notice, now these startups should rather name themselves crybabies.

Notice for what?

To comply with app store rules. Ironically, they shut up and pay the required 30% to apple, but paying just 11% ( using third party payment gateway ) they become crybabies. Google provides a digital platform to find and download their apps and so charges for it.
It is a much smaller amount compared to apple's app store fees and you can always sideload apps in Android if you wish.
