This guy needs a reality check

I had a friend working in Tortoise, and let me tell you this guy Vardhan is one of the worst people to work for. Been seeing his posts more frequently now and it just gets on my nerves. So while he pretends to be so holier than thou and gives free ka gyan on how to run a company, let me give you some facts -

  1. He and his co founder take salary of 9L per month combined, while rest of the team was paid 1-2L per month, even after working their asses off for years in the hopes of building a big company when the founders had no product, no idea what to build.
  2. When it came to appraisals, he always cut a sorry face that there is no business and he cant pay any cash and told everyone to play long game with Esops. (he bought a 1L office chair for himself) Eventually all of the team quit.
  3. Each new employee was told that we will raise a Series A in just 6 months, and all will be richie rich
  4. Harassing employees, saying they are no good and he can fuck their careers whenever he wants because he is paying them.
  5. He even wanted to sell his company to a competitor to make some money for himself while fucking over the entire team, who he told to play the 'long game". (he owns 50% so even a 50cr sale would give him 10-20cr)
  6. His cofounders also left him when they realized this guy is lazy, only words no execution, only cares about making money for himself.
  7. His CTO is just his puppet who has very little equity and doesn't even think for himself, just agreeing to whatever this guy says.

Now finally this guy has some revenue in his new product (that most of the earlier team built), and uses linkedin to shit on his previous team with moral shaming. The truth is that he is one of the worst founders i have seen. I have spoken to too many people of this startup to hold back any longer. I just hope the current emplyees realize this sooner

Actually yes, something "useful" after a long time.

I was part of that team last year too, and honestly—it was a really toxic environment. If you’re considering joining or even thinking about it, I’d strongly suggest chatting with someone who’s worked there. You’ll thank yourself later.

Wouldn’t be worser than paytm’s toxicity

Well, I am this guy, Vardhan, and it’s sad to see such vitriolic post from anonymous accounts. I know who are you, but don’t want to indulge in unnecessary mudsledging.

We are proud of the culture and environment we have created in Tortoise. The salaries and expenses are relative things. We pay top 15-10 percentile market salaries and never give or promise ESOPs in lieu of cash. The reason everyone knows everything is because we maintain transparency in all things finance/ sales/ partnerships with every single team member.

Please do talk to folks who have worked at multiple places and at Tortoise. Or better, talk to a successful founder who is close to you and ask if we are doing okay at Tortoise. I am confident you will be pleasantly surprised.

No one can ensure happiness for everyone. But anonymous hit jobs reeks of insecurity and deceit. At least don’t talk down on amazing folks who has worked and donated precious time in building something worthwhile.

I am reachable at vardhan@tortoise.pro for any feedback and suggestions.
