The TCS penalty saga
When you don't spend money to hire better engineers, you have to spend money on lawsuits!
TCS is facing penalties of abt $300M from it's competitors (EPIC & DXC) for copying their trade secrets to fast track development of its own softwares.
Here is a true story. Was working on a deal. There was a better software product, customer wanted TCS to use. It was costly & TCS didn't want to spend much on license, to protect the service margins. So a project manager came up with new solution. To use that software for a year & then develop TCS own software at cheap cost. The catch was, he decided to copy the features. ( That software was partner. So TCS had access to a lot of its data). The software engineers tried saying 'no'. But nobody listened to them.. somehow an internal legal person caught that in deal contract. He sensed this from the very nature of the deal. He blocked that crap solution part.
Hiring resource at cheap cost now has reached to a deep rot. Ppl just don't want to develop, they just want to copy.
This lawsuit is just the beginning. There are number of cases where client & competitors data is copied/being copied.
TCS soon has to spend a lot on these lawsuits.!
