The story of how a prosperous city fell.

Roads, Metro, Taxi Drivers arrogance, Corruption....Naah Speak Kannada first. I'll be as blunt as possible. "Supporting this behaviour will make life hell for non-Kannadigas in Karnataka and Kannadigas out of Karnataka." This CM has done nothing but spread hatred and divide Karnataka as much as possible.

Unnecessary rant this is

When you are in Delhi/Gurgaon or Lucknow you expect everyone to converse in Hindi.

In Mumbai -you need to converse in Hindi/Marathi.

Then what's the challenge in learning a few basic kannana for social communication

GoofyBagel

Like you said, in Mumbai they speak in Hindi. In the far northeast states too, they speak in Hindi. From Gujrat to Kashmir to West Bengal, many communicate in Hindi. While Kannada is only spoken in a part of Karnataka. So tell me, logically speaking, learning which of these two languages is more beneficial to people?

I don't know how you are working in Accenture, did you answer all the interviews in kannada or some god father helped you to get there.

You are writing a post in english and you are earning because of your skills I believe not the language. Being in corporate you use words like northies or what not. It tells the mindset of yours. Do whatever you can. These so called northies will stay here and help country to grow.

Sure, I'm also a landlord rented out few flats to bengolis with exorbitant rent. Even we know it's more then market standards but northies are ready to pay. So welcome to Bangalore so we can grow rich.

I ain't talkingabout living there. It's part of my country and if the people of this country are not welcome in some state. Then, what do you think is next? Banagalore does have IT sector but Delhi has the best colleges...What do you think will happen if the CM openly says speak Hindi or else...Totally unacceptable.

Many of those who are complaining here , would happily learn any European language if they get a chance to move there.

But they have problem to do the same within their country hypocrisy??

If you have so much bad opinion, why don't you move to a better city ?

@DunderJack I will Agree to Disagree.

If you had moved to a non speaking Language before 2000 also you had to learn the language or do some language tests to move there as they don't have any common language to converse.

But what is happening here specifically in BLR. Please are being insecure of non-kannada people now. And it makes me sad how these Political clowns have made people insecure.

I am against his outspoken character on this and forcing to learn, but as an individual I myself stayed in Bangalore for 4 years. I learnt basic words which are used to communicate with my maid, auto bhaiyya, cab driver to ask whereabouts, dhobi uncle and so on. All you can do is learn simple words and however you'll gonna add English endings to them, so I guess that should be fine. Trust me they won't expect you to speak like a pro, but surely they'll happily correct you if you try and mispronunce something. Give it a try!!

I'm sad to see how a lot of you all are pissed about this. I'm a native of this city. A Kannadiga. This propaganda of having such strong measures and sometimes some hardcore Kannada lovers causing havoc and chaos is all because of one important fact. The population of people who are native Bengalurians and speak Kannada as their native language is decreasing by the day with increasing number of people who don't speak Kannada but enforce to speak either in Hindi or English and not have to basic curiosity to learn atleast the basics of a language spoken by the locals.

Now you might find this weird and funny. But imagine your kids in your hometown having to learn other languages over your own native language just because the others living around them do not speak the language of the locals. This leads to not being proficient in any of the languages they learn, not even in their own native language.

I've been to Singapore and the people there suffer by this issue because of having too many dialects and native languages that differ from area to area and town to town which has forced them to learn what we know as the Singaporean English for standard communication. THIS IS THE MAIN ISSUE. WE DON'T WANT OUR KIDS TO BE MULTILINGUAL AND FAIL TO BE PROFICIENT IN ANY LANGUAGE for best communication.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not supporting whatever the CM or his gang says. I'm supporting the root cause.

Now, if this gets enforced and you'll move to other cities like Chennai or HYD or anywhere where the locals language isn't Hindi, this issue will continue to exist.

Forget about my kids or future generation, even I face this communication issues at Office. I can understand Hindi good enough thanks to exposure to Bollywood and basics hindi from class 8 to 10. But at work, most people in my team speak fast in Hindi and I have to ask them to repeat. And they fail to communicate well in english because of their lack of proficiency. But I'm learning Hindi from them as well as they are learning some basic Kannada from me. Helps us get around the local vendors and people who speak either of the languages.

Best comment I have seen on this topic.

Okay, I understand the pain point. I’ll try to learn some basic Kannada if you think this will help you and your future generations.

But don’t you think this is happening everywhere?

I am a resident of Ayodhya (where the famous Ram Mandir has been built). I have seen people from Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and other states coming here to visit the temple, staying here, and speaking in their languages.

Are we losing our cultural values? Aren’t our kids becoming multilingual?
