Kinda ridiculous. Is it really his fault? It is not easy to curb criminal stuff on an anonymous chat app which is not monitored for privacy concerns.

Telegram is used by many journalists for this very reason.

People can either use a knife to cut vegetables or murder someone. You can’t arrest the inventor of knife for the actions of its users.

It's not ridiculous, for apps with a user base of millions of even billions, it makes sense to hold inventors responsible for not moderating criminal activities on their platform. Otherwise everyone gets a free pass to build amazing apps for drug traffickers, terrorists, etc.. Upon investigation they can just say "I didn't build it for criminals, I built it for civilians" and get away with it.
