Agree it’s supply and demand. But the supply of engineers is really high. Still such skewed salaries for top graduates.

This will change as quality of education goes up throughout

Oh hell yes. In my opinion startups always want to hire someone very quickly & the process naturally means recruiters miss more than they hit.

Also, there are just too few people who are genuinely talented & can thrive in a startup when there are so many other companies willing to offer a pay bump.

As a result, people's salaries have become a poor reflection of their actual abilities.
