In reality, Promotion is not about how long, its purely about your preparedness to take up more responsibility, new elevated role etc. if you think you have done that and can justify, you should ask your manager about it. But knowing the current situation if you are a higher grade employee, then wise to think twice at this moment. All you can do is to justify yourself and remind your manager that you may be eligible
