Did it happen with anyone that you unfortunately didnt get any offer letter in the notice period and had to take it back but could not?
Yes, you can withdraw your resignation before your Last Working Day, but it needs approval from your manager or HR. Don't wait until the last minute; it complicates things.

If you are a good resource whom your manager can feel can get into a project then no issues. But due to resignation your last date is project is already decided and your manager feels that he won’t be able to put you back in project . He will no reason to accept your withdrawal. If he has not approved it yet then no issues at all it won’t go to him for withdrawal approval as well
