Switching jobs early
Hello Grapevine friends,
Total experience - 2.5 years 1st job - 1,5 years 2nd job - 1 year
And due to some issues I need to look for a change now.
At this stage, when I'm applying the HR and the interviewer keeps asking a lot about why I made a change and the reasons for it. And it doesn't stop, they need justifications for each and every thing! Making it a very embarrassing situation. They also sometimes try to take advantage of this.
How shall I deal with this situation? And how shall I move ahead without any issues. Any piece of advice is welcomed. 🙏🏻

Based on the market condition right now, most recruiters will definitely take advantage of the situation to low-ball the offer. Acceptable responses to the question, in my opinion, are Toxic work culture (though try not to bad mouth the company since that's a major red flag), opportunity for growth, wish to work on XYZ tools which are not being used in the current org (works for devs), etc. Come up with a list of such answers next time you are being interviewed and use them one by one. See what works and what doesn't. All the best 👍🏻

How to describe toxic work culture in a professional way?

@Bicken_Chiryani yes definitely. It is very important to make sure that you tell a reason with a good justification but also make sure that you don't say anything bad about the company. Actually I joined a 3rd company about 2 months ago and I can sense the expectation gap! Few people who joined after me are performing better as compared to me and I see that as a red flag for me as in they may not make me permanent. Hence I was looking out for something better that can also give remote. Need some really good reasons.

Dude stay confident while talking to an HR. They do all just to lower your confidence and then low ball you at the time of offer. If you have skills they need, they are gonna hire you irrespective of your background I believe. And there a hell lot of companies, and while talking to an HR keep the attitude ki "tu nahi toh koi aur, bhaad mai ja"

Yes agreed! But honestly especially in these times the confidence comes only when you have a really good offer in your hand.

If the issue is a toxic work environment then it should be okay to hear for the HR. But if there is an issue like you're bored or not being able to enjoy the work then it might not be a very compelling argument. Think of it as a range of responses you can give and put yourself in the HR's shoes and try to give them what they want to hear. If it coincides with the truth then it's the best possible scenario.

Can you please help me with some good reasons to share with HR and interviewers?

It’s okay. Do what you think is best for your career :)

Be clear on why you left each role
Steer the convo to the future not the past : Acknowledge that perhaps 2+ represents a good stint and that is what you are looking for with this role - a path to contribute and grow over the next 3-4 years at least.
Highlight the unique skills and learnings from both roles - and how that sets you up well for contributing on the new role
There are folks with multiple 1 year stints who now are industry leaders as well as folks with 10-20 years who get laid off. So don’t worry too much about what you cant change. Ideally look for your next role with a view of minimum 2-3 years though

Noted
Yes so need to frame something like that
I think that I have very well put on my resume and I also convey the same in interviews
Definitely where ever I join need to stay for minimum 2 years
