Switching from Mechanical to Software

Hi guys, I am currently working in Infosys ENG unit, having a diploma and degree in Mechanical Engineering. I am currently working on an aeroengines project where I am working on creating change requests for technical manuals. My work is mainly on excel and word files. I have talked to one of relatives and they advised me to take a career switch. They gave me two options, to learn SAP or to learn coding. And I also personally think that there is nothing to learn and grow and also getting the right job with right project is very very hard here. Please advise me if I should switch from mechanical to software as there is much higher paying jobs and plenty of opportunities as compared to my current field that will help to grow and learn.

My current role is System Engineer, 4+ YOE, joined infy as operations executive. My current CTC is 3.93 LPA even after this much experience.

I am eager to learn coding but don't know where and which language to start from. Please give suggestions. Thankyou!
