Switch to product management from design - Advice needed
Hello everyone,
I'm currently working as a design engineer (Mechanical) with 6 YOE. Recently I learned about product management and it is fascinating to me. So thought about switching to it because I'm interested in it and it would also increase the earning potential.
So how can I make the switch from a design engineer to product manager? Is MBA a mandatory for a product manager role or I need to gain relevant experience from my current role (not sure how to do this though) or do I need any certification?
Apart from mechanical design, I know python, PowerBI and tableau - all basics as I worked on some automation in my team. Also have experience working in a engineering cross functional environment for product development.
Any advice or guidance in plotting a roadmap on how I can make the switch is appreciated. :)

I would suggest you to start with product owner role… then slowly gain pace over it and gain experience in product management as a product owner later you can switch to product manager roles… some companies mandatorily expect MBA graduates for product management.. however some still take you with experience… direct to product management is quite difficult if you haven’t done customer and stakeholder managements… and if you have only design experience.. hope this helps…
