Suggestion Needed
I am 26 years old and earning 3.6 lpa. If you r in the same situation what would have done? ( Working as a mechanical design engineer). I have intrest in IT and also thinking of appearing in GATE. Pls give some suggestions.

Grow invest on your skills. Don't buy gadgets and go on to spend weekends fine dining. Save and live frugal but invest in your skills. Try switching a person I know started from 3lpa and within 4 yrs came close to 30 lpa its just a matter of intensity and how you play it right.

The field you are in will grow over time, and required patience, over 10-15 years from now your income will be stable and good.
In IT, its opposite, you will earn good chunk of money in beginning and slowly slowly your income will start getting stagnant, also no one prefer old people in IT.

If you are a GC don't waste time with GATE. It's. ItS not worth it.
Mech engg is a very slow career line. First 10 years will appear practically dead. But after 10-12 years there is a chance for extremely good growth both in role and money. But there is a catch. Our defenition of design and the west defines design very differently.
In west since they have good R&D, many design engg work from scratch to end. Our design department essentially moving parts from the import list to local production. So we get to work in small improvement design which is not worth much.
But the jobs in design are usually from the global gaints who move their design centres offshore. The main design division is held back smaller non value add things get moved here.
If your current job involves much more than just designing a bracket or indigenisation projects, then waiting is worth the risk.

I won’t take cc and emis live frugal
