Suggestion for Car to a newbie
Hey guys,
I have a driving licence but I don’t use to drive cars. I wanted go buy a car for learning purpose and then upgrade to a new car. I have been checking spinny and cars24 for used cars. I need a car below 5lakhs. I checked in spinny about their buy back guarantee. For a 4 lakh car after one year they are ready to buy for 2.8 Lakh. Does it sounds like a good offer??
Kindly give me your valuable suggestions. What’s the best thing I can do now?

Depends a lot on your usage though. But with budget of 5L get a baleno 2019 ish model. Try real owners, local dealers as a second option, and if nothing else then you may go for spinny or cars24 (as they jack us their margins like crazy) Maruti is a good first car because of cheap service, forgiving damage costs, and generally underpowered engines. Start with this is my suggestion. I started with a Gypsy and Santro, then moved to i20, got an XUV500, then thar, now a Scorpio. Sold all but the XUV and Scorpio, this is because my usage is generally more hill and bad roads focused) But it primarily depends on your usage and requirement.

This for a 2 member family. Also the purpose is learning. After a year or so will buy a new car. How much resale value can I expect for a used car? Say for example for 2019 model baleno bought for 5L?

If you get it for around 5, the resale it you sell it yourself should not drop more that 1.5L, depends a lot on the milage as well. For a 2 member family any hatchback is comfortable enough as a beginner. Maruti and Hyundai, generally has good resale value, so does Mahindra. Don’t get a Tata though, their value depreciates like crazy.
Another suggestion as you’re planning on selling off the car in an year or so, see if any of your friends or relatives are selling their cars and if they fit your budget, as a first time used car buyer, the market if full of people trying to scam you. Atlest with relatives or friends you can judge how the car might be…
