Seems incorrect. The % of vegetarians in tn is definitely much higher than 1. 1 in 3 people you ask are vegetarians.

This is wrong interpretation. Non veg in the western countries mean meat as the main food. Meaning, they eat steak/mutton as the main course. In our country meat is more of a side dish. Meaning we take chicken as kurma or something you add to rice or roti and have together. For dinner the majority of the houses do not take meat . Just a decade back many houses adopt seasonal food habits as well. People avoid eating non veg on certain full months and many time during certain days of the week. There is no soluch concept in western countries.
The media will twist data in the manner it suits them.
