Stuck in SAP FICO, Want to Move into Product/Project Management Suggestions?
Hey everyone,
I’m looking for some career guidance and would love to hear from people who’ve been through a similar situation.
I am in a bit of desperate situation where i feel totally stuck.
My background:
B.Tech in CSE (2022 pass-out)
3–3.6 years of experience
Currently working as SAP FICO Associate Consultant at a Big 4 (but salary is closer to WITCH level)
Certified PSM & PSPO
The problem:
I’m honestly not enjoying Finance & Accounting work in FICO. It’s not my background either.
I just got into it due my financial issues as the company which hired me on campus delayed onboarding to an year ( WIPRO).
Now switching to another SAP module isn’t a practical option right now. I’ve also lost touch with coding and don’t feel like going back to it.
I am stuck here, neither i am able to learn FICO nor i am able to make transition to my desired areas.
I have literally applied around a thousand of openings.
If these kept happening & getting delayed, i would a below average SAP FICO consultant, which i dont want.
What I actually like:
The management/product side of things
I’ve handled end-to-end implementation & development of products solely, and felt way more connected there
Roles like Product Management, Project Management, Product Owner, Scrum Master sound like the right direction for me
The confusion:
I know in SAP, becoming a Project Manager usually takes 8–10 years of experience, so that’s not realistic for me right now
I want to move into Product/Project Management side outside of SAP or in SAP-adjacent teams (Scrum Master, PO, PMO, BA, etc.)
I’ve already done PSM & PSPO, since Scrum came naturally to me
Due to financial dependency and constraints, pursuing an MBA is not possible for me at all, so I need to find alternative paths forward
I am presently learning PM related different tools & techniques
My ask:
For someone with my background, what’s the best way to transition into Product/Project roles without being stuck in SAP FICO for years?
What Should I do??
Would love to hear your advice, especially from folks who’ve managed this kind of transition.
Thanks in advance.
