Stuck at a Crossroads: Backend Dev (6 YOE, 20-25 LPA) - Where to Go from Here?
Hi everyone,
I’ve been working as a Java backend developer for the past 6 years, mainly focusing on Spring Boot and Microservices. Over this time, I’ve gained solid experience in coding, debugging, and designing scalable services.
Now, I’m at a crossroads in my career — I’m aiming to grow further, both in compensation and long-term career satisfaction, especially as the AI-driven tech landscape continues to evolve rapidly.
I’d love to hear from folks who’ve been in similar shoes:
After 6.7 years in backend development with a CTC in the 20–25 LPA range (Bangalore), what career paths did you explore?
Is it better to double down on System Design, branch into DevOps/Cloud, or pivot toward Solution Architecture or Engineering Management?
Are there any certifications, tech stacks, or soft skills that made a significant impact on your growth?
What are you doing to stay relevant in the AI era and prepare for future opportunities?
Any insights, suggestions, or personal stories would mean a lot!
Thanks in advance!
