Struggling with AI Dependency in My Development Career
For over a year now, I haven't been able to write a single line of code without using AI. Despite having 3+ years of experience in web development, I've become completely dependent on AI tools for even the most basic tasks.
My theoretical knowledge has deteriorated to almost zero. I need AI assistance for creating simple UIs or basic functionality. Without AI, I can't even write a basic JavaScript function anymore.
This dependency has made me fearful of job interviews. I've been rejected by multiple companies because I'm unable to answer technical questions properly. While I can complete work assignments with AI assistance, I feel like I have nothing to offer on my own.
I'm overthinking and genuinely worried about my future in this industry. How can I break this dependency and rebuild my skills to survive in tech long-term?
Take out time, maybe on weekends, to read documentation and books on the technologies you're working on, to improve your knowledge.
You will have to study to improve your theoretical knowledge. That's how you can fulfill this gap. It won't magically go away on its own.
